Exam anxiety occurs when we fear exams, especially if we expect negative evaluation, embarrassment or failure. The pressure of exam stress, hectic study schedules, and fulfilling expectations of self, parents, and friends from school and college can lead to high levels of stress. Students also experience negative thoughts that lead to feelings of anxiety in preparing for the exams or on the day of exams. While it is okay to experience a little bit of anxiety, too much can distract you and lower your performance in the exam. Many students, irrespective of their intelligence, start feeling negative about themselves and worry that they are stupid or that they will surely mess up in the exam and fail

Some of the common student fears are:

  • I will not remember anything in the exam
  • I have not prepared adequately for the exam
  • I will not be able to complete exam paper in given time
  • The exam questions will be covered on chapters I have not prepared
  • My handwriting will not be eligible in exam and I will score less
